Since reestablishing contact with my old
high school friends back at home I have been
awash in sentimental memories. Most of us
even went to the same elementary school together:
Pope John XXIII in Mississauga, Ontario.
We go way back.
Today I took the "Who's your favourite 20th Century Pope" quiz, which asks you questions about
your likes, dislikes, values, etc., and matches
you with the 20th Century Pope most resembling
your criteria. Guess who mine turned out
to be...creepy. What were they doing to me
at that school?

I used to worry that my resume was too crappy,
that is until I read this.

Toady's theme is Japanese politics. Above
are some pictures of campaign posters and
of a candidate giving a speech. Japan's new
eccentric, reformist Prime Minister, Junichiro
Koizumi, has breathed new life into the usually
stagnant Japanese political scene. His personal
email newsletter is possibly the largest
in the world with over 500,000 people signed
up to receive it.

I was on Adobe's site today and came across the coolest new
software: Atmosphere. It allows you to build and navigate Doom-like
3D worlds for the web. You need to have their
browser plugin (about 5 MB) to view the demos,
but it's well worth the wait for the download
and installation.
I was really impressed with the immersive
quality, and fluid movement. You can integrate
weblinks in these virtual worlds, have characters
who can talk to each other, jump from world
to world, etc. I think that I'll be making
a virtual version of my apartment here in
Tokyo and all my friends will be invited
to come over and 'virtually' hang out.

My friend Jenn, who's so hip that she can barely walk straight,
interviewed me for a Canadian web site a
while ago. You can check it out here. If you'd like to read some of the other
interviews, then go here.

The photo shoot marathon for Wired magazine
is over and I'm back to my regular routine
-- I sent the pictures today by FedEx. They
were on 10 cds, about 300 pictures in all.
I was shocked at the file size of the photos
(about 27MB each picture!), not very web-friendly.
I hope they like the pictures, I haven't
heard back from them yet.

Got a new computer at work today -- YeeHaaaw,
I love new equipment. It's an IBM ThinkPad,
Windows 2000 professional, only problem is
that it's all in Japanese. Oh well, I suppose
I'll find my way around. The good thing about
Windows is that it's pretty hard to break
things.

Hi to all my old friends back in my hometown
who have just recently tuned into
hunkabutta. Hope you're all keeping Mississauga
warm for me while I'm away.
