Well, the new hunkabutta site-features are finished. As you can see on your left, there is now a dynamic link index -- anybody can add a link to the list. I'm hoping that this will evolve into a resource for people who are into photologs, or who have questions about photologging, image processing, cameras, etc. Please make sure to put your links in the appropriate categories.

Also, there will now be weekly, or maybe bi-monthly surveys -- how fun! Please take a moment to submit your vote. I'll try to make these surveys interesting for the general photologger community, but I'll probably also use them to see how people feel about various aspects of hunkabutta.  If you encounter any problems with these new features, i.e., wonkey pages, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. There are bound to be a few bugs here and there.

My next project is to put together some new topical photo galleries to be shown on, where else, the hunkabutta gallery page.

Enjoy!

Man-o-man, what an uneventful weekend, but, hey, that's okay, they can't all be wild and woolly. Tomorrow's a National holiday here in Japan, and I think that'll take my new camera out for a test run -- maybe the park, maybe the market. I'm also working on some great new hunkabutta site features, to be previewed sometime soon, I'll say no more because I want you to wallow in the suspense.

Above are some geometrical pattern pictures that I took at various times and places.  I love patterns, I find it a real challenge recognizing them in the everyday items that we see around us. Also, I think that patterns, along with  portraits, are the only two types of photos that really come-off well on most websites. Don't get me wrong, I like landscapes, action scenes etc., but I find that, unless they're very large, those kind of pictures just don't have any umphff on a computer screen, if you know what I mean.

Gratuitous links of the day:

1) Thanks to David from ligtningfield for this one -- make sure your sound is on and your mind is empty...

2) For all of you out there who, like me, work in the 'Internet industry,' this little online program will undoubtedly come in handy at one time or another.

Above are a few shots that I took around Ueno station a couple of weeks ago.  The area's lively, but a bit on the seedy side -- a lot pachinko halls and guys offering to take you to 'massage parlors,' wink-wink-nudge-nudge.

I spent part of the afternoon today cleaning the NEW SLR CAMERA that my father-in-law was kind enough to leave for me before he returned to Canada! Well, it's not exactly new -- actually it's almost 35 years old, but it's a great starter camera, totally manual, and, as they say in Spain, I'm mucho excitido. Start expecting a few print quality scanned pictures to appear on hunkabutta anytime soon.

Stay tuned...

Nobody can ever say that I'm not true to my word -- last night I got hosed: very hosed in fact. We started off at a beautiful tabihodai (all you can eat/drink) restaurant, then we ended up at Scruffy Murphy's, a pub in Harajuku. Great band (I was a dance'n fool); great beer (St. Patrick's 'week' specials); and great company (friends from work). Above are some pics of said event.

Site news!
You can now send hunkabutta pictures as postcards to your friends -- just look for the link at the bottom of the picture pages. Try it out and let me know what you think.
